Flash Templates Tutorials - Symbols - Graphic Symbols
Graphic symbols are raster graphics transformed to an object. This is done to ease the work in Flash, because symbol exists independently and to select it you just need to click it with the Arrow tool. The blue outline will appear around the symbol.
To create new graphic symbol go to Insert > New Symbol or press Ctrl+F8. Dialog box will appear for you to enter the symbol name and in the Behavior list select graphic.
This will open the blank sheet that you can create the symbol at. New tab will appear in top left part of the screen beside the tools panel, displaying that you are working on a new symbol and not working on the main scene. Click respective tabs to switch between the scenes. By default, the new scene will be named Scene 1.
The X-mark in the middle of the scene points where the symbols centre of rotation will be located. In addition, the symbol has the timeline; therefore, you can create animation in it. We do not recommend you to create animation within a symbol, as it is meant for storing the static graphics.
If you will move to the main Scene after creating a symbol, you will not see the symbol there. For now, it will exist only in the library. You will need to open the library and drag the image to the scene from it. To edit created symbol you need to double-click it in the scene or in the library.
