Movie Clip Symbols
Movie Clip symbols serve to break complex animation into simpler fragments that can be combined when needed later on. With movie clip symbols, the movie consists of equitable, but simpler movies. You must use the timeline for this symbol as it is meant to store the animation.
In you create the loop animation in the movie clip symbol and place it to the scene, even the one that consists of one frame the animation in the movie clip symbol will be played independently, along as the symbol is on the scene and it is visible. Please note, that the playback speed of the movie clip symbol (frames per second) will always be equal to the playback speed of the primary movie.
In Flash, you can import one symbol into another one. You can import as many symbols into one another, as you need to. Therefore, within the Down frame of the button symbol, you can insert the movie clip and the animation will be played within a button once the button is pressed.
In addition to that, Flash allows you to set the type for the instance and not the symbol. Therefore you can place the instance of the symbol and set new type for it without changing the type of the symbol. This does not seem very useful now, but in our next tutorials you will find out more about this feature of symbols and instances.
In addition to three symbol types described above, Flash supports three more symbol types: bitmap, sound and embedded video. These types are also called the Imported Symbols. As you can understand bitmap symbols are the imported bitmap images and sound symbols are imported sound files. These two types of symbols cannot be created in Flash unlike button symbols and movie clip symbols.
