Using the Libraries
If you will take a look at the symbols list that is located in the bottom part of the Library window you will see that it is a table with multiple columns. These columns are:
· Name - the name of the symbol
· Kind - kind of the symbol (Graphic, Button, Movie Clip, Bitmap, Sound or Font)
· Use Counts - the amount of instances built based on this symbol, if there are none you will see the dash symbol.
· Linkage the condition of the current symbol
· Date Modified date of the last modification
You can change the width of any column, dragging its right border with the mouse. This is similar for any Windows applications that use such listings. You can also sort the values in the list by clicking the header of the needed column. The button located to the left in the headers row allows you to reverse the listing order of symbols.
You will notice later on that the values in the Use Counts are not always correct. In this case you need to select Update Use Counts Now from the bottom menu of the Library window to update to correct values.
You can enable or disable the automatic update of the use count after each instance creation or deletion by selecting Keep Use Counts Updated from the bottom menu in the Libraries window. By default it is enabled, but if you find that constant count update slows down your PC you can disable it.
Below the button that changes the order, there are two more buttons. These buttons allow you to resize the Library window quickly. The top button resizes the window so that the full list of symbols is displayed. Think well before pressing it, as the Library window may go full-screen if there are enough symbols in your library. The button below resizes the library window so that only symbol names are displayed. An of course, you can change the size of the Library window in the way that is same for all applications in Windows.
Above the preview pane, you can see the status line that displays the total amount of symbols in the library.
Right-clicking the preview window will bring up a small menu. There you can select Show Grid option to enable or disable the grid, select Movie's Background or White Background to be displayed along with the image in the preview window.
You can select multiple symbols by clicking on them with Ctrl button pressed. You can click one of the symbols with Shift button pressed and then click other symbol with Shift pressed to select all of the symbols between these two.
