Text using in Flash movies
Type 1 PostScript ®, TrueType ® and bitmap fonts may be used in Flash movies. Flash imports text to the final movie with all its internal system setups. Nevertheless, there are chances in FLA files when the file developed on one platform may be read incorrectly on other platforms, besides, in order to show it correctly your audience must have the same fonts even while being on the same platform.
One may avoid these potential conflicts by using special fonts called device fonts. There are three device fonts in Flash: _sans, _serif and _typewriter. When the text is entered with the help of these fonts Flash Player on the local computer of the user substitutes the closest device font.
Device fonts are especially helpful for using at text fields, for large text blocks where you do not need any anti-aliasing and for creating a smaller sized movie as they do not contain any internal settings.
Conversion of a text into a graphic presentation also removes those conflicts but increases file size.
Not all fonts presented in Flash may be exported by the movie.
A good way to check the correctness of the export is to select View – Antialias Text. If the text has some notches it means that Flash doesn’t recognize font structure and will not export text properly. Use Freehand package opportunities for manipulating with text and export it as SWF file for the additional processing.
In Flash working with text is not limited by simple output and intricate design. Possibilities of text using are much more wider and allow to reach the required results much faster and easier rather then using Java or DHTML.
