Symbol is an image, animation or button which can be used several times.
Symbol is the detail placed in the library. By dragging it along the whole video, you create its "samples'. Symbols facilitate the work with the movie when the repetitive elements are used. If some symbol is used several times, you need to change the symbol only and the changes will take place at all the images where this symbol is automatically. Symbols usage reduces the volume of your movies dramatically. And repetition of one element (described once) requires less resources rather then inserting of the same element to the movie every time. For example, you can reduce your movie size if you convert the static pictures (like background) into the symbol. Besides, you will speed up the loading of your movie as symbols are uploaded into the browser only once.
Symbols are the reused graphics which you create with the help of drawing tools. When you place the symbol at the Stage, its instance is created. Symbols usage reduces the file size due to the fact that Flash will save only one copy in the file notwithstanding on the number of instances. Use animated or non-animated symbols for each element used in the movie more than once. Any instance property changing doesn`t influence master-symbol, at the same time master-symbol editing changes all the instances at once.
When editing a symbol, Stage and Timeline are changed showing the symbol content. One can change the Stage by showing the symbol separately or by selecting it from other elements area which are shown more faded at the Stage.
One can also edit the symbol in the separate window. In this mode the Timeline shows the temporary dynamics of the edited symbol only.
When creating a symbol, make up your mind how you want to use it:
- graphical symbol for the static images, or for the purpose of creating the repetitive parts of animation. Online management and sounds will not work in the graphical symbols animation sequence
movie-clip create the repetitive elements of animation played independently from the Timeline; it is a some kind of mini-clip which may contain its own sounds, online functions as well as other movie-clips inside. You can also use movie-clips to create animated buttons (you can import it into the Timeline)
Button symbol in order to create online buttons responding standard events (like mouse click, mouse passing over the button, etc)
If you have already created some symbol, you can make its separate copies act like another kind of symbols. In order to check how they work, play the movie by launching it through the menu Control Test Movie or Control Test Scene.
Symbols copying If you want to create a symbol similar to the already created symbol, don`t waste your precious time. Copy the ready-made symbol! In order to copy a symbol, mark the symbol in the Library window, select Duplicate in the Options menu in the same window.
