Flash Templates Tutorials - Creating a symbol
Creating a symbol
Creating symbols - you can create a symbol from the objects located on the scene, or you can create an empty symbol, and then create symbol content in symbol editor.
Symbols can contain all the features possible to create in Flash, including animation.
When creating symbols with animation, you can create a clip with a large amount of moving images without creating huge files.
It is recommended to create animated symbols if you want to create an element with the looping movement, as a fluttering bird...
To make a new symbol from a selected element: select the desirable elements on the scene and select Insert / Create Symbol. In Symbol Properties window enter a symbol name and select behavior: Graphic, Button or Movie Clip.
Marked elements will turn into one "group of objects" that will be an instance of the new symbol. The symbol itself will be located at where it should be, known as the library. To change this symbol, open it. Before creating an empty symbol, make sure that no elements at your scene are marked! And then do the following:
Select Insert / Create Symbol. Click New Symbol in the top of Library window. Select New Symbol in Options menu in the window Library. In Symbol Properties enter the symbol name and select its type. Flash will switch into symbols editing mode. The symbol name will appear above the upper left corner of the scene. In the window there is a cross indicating the center of the symbol. If you do not see this cross, select View / Show Frame. To create the symbol content, use Timeline, draw with various tools, import everything you want to, or insert instances of other symbols…
When you finish creating your symbol, go to Edit / Edit Movie in order to exit editing mode.
