Flash Templates Tutorials - GIF Properties - Flash exports
Flash exports all frames in the current clip in GIF format, if you do not define the range of frames for export, imposing tag frames First and Last in the relevant keyframes. Flash can generate image map for GIF format as buttons, so that the link with a URL in the original clip continues to function as a link in the image.
Put a Map mark in the keyframe in which you want to create a map of the image. If you do not create a mark frame Flash will creates an image map by using buttons in the last frame of the clip. Created GIF images are displayed using $IM, Template variable which should be present in the template, which you select.
Use management tools in GIF bar of Publish Settings dialog box to edit the following settings:
Dimensions - Set the size of the exported image in pixels, which you enter in the fields Width and Height.
Match Movie - Entering data in the fields Width and Height has no effect, and Flash makes GIF file of the same size as the clip.
Flash ensures that the size that you have determined always has the same compression ratio as your original image.
Playback - Determines whether Flash creates a static image or animation.
Static - export one image.
Animated press to export live graphics transfer.
Animated - select either Loop Continuously, or enter the number of repetitions.
Options - Identify the range of settings properties for the exported GIF file. Optimize Colors removes any unused colors from the color table of GIF file. It can reduce the size of a file without worsening GIF image quality. However, it slightly increases memory requirements. Please note that this option has no effect with Adaptive palette.
Smooth - enables or disables smoothing in the exported dotted image. Smoothing produces raster image of higher quality. The quality of text on the display is poor without smoothing. However, there might appear an image ghost of grey pixels around smoothed image placed on a colored background. To export with smoothing without an image ghost, create transparent GIF that will be placed on top of the colored background. Disabling this option makes GIF files smaller.
Interlace - Makes the exported GIF displayed step by step in the browser as far as downloaded. Interlaced GIF provides user with the basic graphical content before the file is fully loaded and can be quickly loaded on a slow network connection.
Dither Solids applies the transfer of semitones to the solid colors as well as to gradient images.
Remove Gradients - Converts all gradients filling the clip to the solid colors by using the first color in the gradient. Gradients increase the size of GIF and often have poor quality. When using this option, you must first select your color gradients carefully to prevent unexpected results. The default value is false.
Transparent - Determines how the clip background and alpha settings of transparency in Flash are converted into GIF. Select one of these options from a pop-up menu: Opaque makes a background from an opaque clip. Transparent makes the background transparent.
Alpha - Makes all the colors beneath the threshold value of alpha transparency completely invisible. Colors with alpha values above the threshold remain as they are. Enter the value between 0 and 255 into the Threshold field at the right. Value 128 corresponds to 50% of alpha. Dither - enables or disables the transfer of semitones and determines the method of transfer of semitones in pixels in the range of similar colors in order to simulate colors that are not available in the current palette. When transferring semitones from Flash, colors not from the main table but from the table with solid colors, which most closely approximate the requested color, are replaced; without transferring semitones you may produce smaller files, but check the results to see whether the colors are satisfactory. Transferring semitones may help if the transparent image contains objects. Transferring semitones increases the size of the file. Select from the following transfer of semitones: None disables the transfer of semitones. Ordered provides semitones transfer of good quality to the least possible increase in the size of the file. Popular Diffusion provides the better quality of semitones transfer, but increases the file size and processing time is longer than with custom transfer semitones. It only works with 216 color palette.
Palette Type - Determines the color palette used for the image. You can select from the following: Web 216 uses standard 216 - color secured palette of the browser to create a GIF image. This provides good image quality and the fastest processing on the server. Adaptive analyzes colors in the image and creates a unique color table for a specific GIF. This creates the most accurate color for the image, but the final GIF file size is larger than GIF established with web 216 - color palette. You can reduce PNG size established with adaptive palette by reducing the number of colors in the palette. Adaptive palette works best for the systems, displaying thousands or millions of colors. Web Snap Adaptive is the same as Adaptive palette, except that it converts color close to Web 216 color palette. The final color palette is optimized for the image, but when possible, Flash uses colors in Web 216. When Web 216 palette is active at 256 - color system, it produces best colors for the image. Custom allows you to determine a palette that you have optimized for the current image. To use this option, you must be familiar with the creation and use of custom palettes. To select a custom palette, click a button tagged with (...) sign at the right from the field Palette at the bottom of the dialog box, and select the palette file. Flash supports palettes saved in ACT format. It is the same format used by Macromedia Fireworks and other key applications working with graphics.
Max Colors - Sets the number of colors used in GIF image. Selecting fewer colors can produce a smaller file, but can degrade the quality of the colors in the image. You can set the value for max colors only when you have selected Adaptive or Web Snap Adaptive as options of Palette Type.
