Photoshop Tutorials - Grow and Similar Commands
Grow and Similar Commands
With the help of Magic Wand tool you can increase the area of the selection by increasing the Tolerance value. Photoshop has special command Grow that adds pixels to the selection following the same algorithm, even using the same Tolerance value that can be set in the Options palette.
Grow command uses adjacent pixels to enlarge the selection. If the pixel matches the Tolerance parameter then it is added to the selection and pixels that are adjacent to it are analyzed.
Similar command is used to enlarge the selection. It is also located in the Select menu. It is based on the tolerance parameter set in Magic Wand tool options. As distinct from the Grow command, Similar command adds the pixels of the similar color from all over the image.
Grow and Similar are similar to Contiguous mode being on and off with the Magic Wand tool, with the exception that they require for the selection to be created prior to enlarging it.
