Photoshop Tutorials - Modifying the Selection Outline
Modifying the Selection Outline
Almost every selection needs some correction of its outline. There is a need for this, because automatic operations of Photoshop do not always sufficiently fulfill your thoughts and plans on image customization.
That is when the Modify commands from the Select menu will come handy. There are four of them:
Expand command will expand the selection by the number of pixels that you have set.
Contract command will contract the image by the number of pixels that you have set.
Smooth command will even out the outline of the selection. By evening out I mean that it will not only smooth the sharp corners of the selection outline, but it will also remove the holes that may occur within selection during the work with the Magic Wand tool. This command has the sample radius as a parameter and all of the holes in the image that have radius smaller then tha value set for the tool will be added to selection or subtracted from it (if they are located outside the selection outline)
The Border command will transform the outline of the selection into the selection with determined width.
