Photoshop Tutorials - Working with the Layers
Working with the Layers
Now we will talk about working with layers and clipboard. When you copy or cut anything and paste to the layer the pasted element creates the new layer. This is done using hotkeys (Ctrl+C or Ctrl+X) or in the menu by going to Layer > New > Layer via Copy or Layer > New > Layer via Cut respectively.
You can create the layer that is already filled by choosing one of the following options available at Layer > New Fill Layer:
Solid - the menu with new layer adjustment appears and then the new layer is filled with the color selected in the second window.
Gradient - you choose the gradient from the window that appears and this gradient becomes a new layer.
Pattern - you choose the pattern that fills the new layer.
You can delete selected layer by dragging it to the trash can incon in the layers palette or by going to the menu Layer > Delete > Layer.
You can group layer in sets. To create a layer set go to Layer > New >Layer set or press new icon set button in the layers palette. The only new option in the new layer group settings menu, that will appear to configure new layer group, will be the Pass Through option. In this mode all layers in the group act like a single one.
In order to add a layer to the layer set you need to drag the layer over the layer set in the Layers palette. In order to remove it you will need to drag it over the New Layer Set icon.
You can show or hide the layers that are contained in the layer set within the Layers palette.
Right-click on the Layer Set in the Layers Palette to bring up the window with its settings.R, G and B checkboxes let you set what color channels to display.
