It is time to get acquainted with the tools that will let you work with the layers. They are Layer Styles. Layer styles are applied to all elements of the layer without any exceptions and you cannot protect any elements with building the selection. In order to bring up the Layer Styles settings you need to double click the layer in the layers palette or click the Layer Styles icon at the bottom of the Layers palette and the list of styles will open letting you choose the exact style you want to access.
Let us look at the layer Style window. It has the list of styles in the left part of the window and layer style options in the right part of it as well as the small preview window. You can apply one or several styles for the layer. In order to apply selected style you need to check its checkbox in the layer styles list. If you changed your mind and do not want to apply the layer style you can simply uncheck its checkbox in the layer styles list.
Layer style options are dynamic and you can change them at any moment. In order to access the options of the needed layer style you can simply click on it in the layer styles list and its options will appear on the right side of the window.
