ICANN launches testing on the multilingual domain TLDs

by Admin | post a comment

Since September 15, 2007, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers starts testing the wikis in several languages for the example.test domain name. Site visitors will be able to use wikis in Arabic, Persian, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Russian, Hindi, Greek, Korean, Yiddish, Japanese and Tamil. ICANN selected the languages basing on the interest shown by the communities to bringing the concept to reality.

Until this moment, only the domain names written with ASCII characters a-z were used for the domain names on the internet. If the project will succeed and ICANN will launch Internationalized Domain Names, this will be a breakthrough in the internet technology.
